15/01/2013Review of wearable health technologies at CES 2013
Among the estimated 20,000 new products that debut at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week, a number of companies – LG, Withings, Jawbone, BodyMedia, Fitbit, Nike, Basis – unveiled either entirely new or updated new wearable fitness gadgets.
LG and Withings, for example, each released their own Smart Activity Tracker at this year’s event. Withings separates itself from Nike and LG by featuring a heart rate monitor on the back of the device. The company is also promoting the Smart Body Analyzer, which will help people “live and sleep in a healthier environment” because of its ability to track temperature and carbon dioxide levels.
BodyMedia has proclaimed the Core 2 as “the smallest health tracker ‘of its kind’”. The size of a quarter, it’s been “designed to fit in a number of fashion-oriented interchangeable straps and cuffs” (source).
Fitbit and Basis also released new products, joining the lines of Jawbone and Nike with their Up and Fuelband offerings, respectively.
